I'm an Adherent of the Philosopher, Susan James
In academia, there's what some male Professors call 'camps', other male researchers term 'factions'. These may be a group of people who adhere to a particular academic, or it may be an individual who adheres to one particular academic because that person can connect with that academic as a person and can identify with their Philosophy and so wish to advocate their philosophy as well as develop themselves along their lines.
I am, and always have only been, since early 2010, an academic adherent of Professor Susan James, her Philosophy, her specialisations, her interests, her particular outlook, her personality, all suit me extremely well. See my original emails to Professor Susan James below π which show I already wanted to be, and had become, her adherent very soon after she started lecturing to me on my compulsory History of Philosophy 1st year module (February 2010) and by March 2nd 2010 I had demonstrated this in writing:
I also nominated her as my mentor and treated her as my mentor, see my original emails to her below in 2010π
(I've edited out my email content because it's none of your business, I'm simply showing you and proving that I haven't just suddenly pretended this year that Professor Susan James is my mentor):
So, as you can see, I've been in her 'camp', all along. And I will continue to be so. Susan James will also continue as my mentor no matter what I do whether now or in the future eg independent philosopher, postgraduate or other. I will never cease to be an adherent of hers and her philosophy.
Hence, if anyone is still bold enough to make any unsolicited suggestions, just bear in mind that I shall discuss them with Susan James before making any decisions. This is not only in keeping with her role with regards to me, but also to prevent situations such as the Groningen shenanigans and dissertation saga that then drag on for years, inconvenience me greatly and require her to clean up the mess afterwards.
Obviously, Professor Susan James is well aware of her role in relation to me, as are all the other academics, if they are honest with themselves, whether they be in Philosophy or related disciplines, all of whom have this rather strange, unethical standpoint, that they justify to themselves, of incessantly 'chancing their arm' in 'poaching' me off her. Unacceptable!
I have never consented, or been interested in, becoming an adherent of anyone other than Professor/Professor Emerita Susan James and frankly, that's all that matters. It's up to the student or adherent, to decide for themselves who to mix with based on their own sense of who suits them best. The student or adherent is 'king'.
As far as I am concerned, all academics from any number of universities cannot continue to play this game of evangelising for their 'camp' or 'faction' or for their own individual gain any longer. So, I find the continual absurd tactics of these ruthless, arrogant, ambitious academics/lecturers, (and any new ones who may be recruited to take their place) completely outrageous and unwelcome. As far as I am concerned, they have all been 'sent off the pitch' for their disqualifoulΒΉ.
Do not confuse my sociability with interest in you or your 'camp'/group. I'm merely being civil. It doesn't mean anything more than that.
And remember the take-away message:
It's up to the one who becomes an adherent to decide. It's not up to an individual lecturer or academic (or their followers) to make the decision for them or slander the opposition in order to knock out the competition. I take a very dim view of this tactic.
NB. Professor Susan James is the only mentor I have ever had in my life not just in Philosophy but in any field, eg music, art, performing arts, sport. And remains the only one. And there's no job opening for a second one or third or fourth.... to work concurrently or instead of.
ΒΉCambridge Dictionary:
A "disqualifoul" is a foul that is so heinous the player is sent off the field, "disqualified from playing any more".
